At last the awaited voice call on the popular social media Whatsapp is integrated now.
So Whatsapp has finally added voice
call functionality into the world’s most popular instant
messaging app and a selected few got the invite to test
out WhatsApp new voice over data calling features .
The user who first reported this did so by posting his
screenshots and video to Reddit . He’s also based in India,
which points to the possibility that users in that region may
be the early testers for the new feature. After his post,
others then joined him in sharing screenshots of their
WhatsApp applications, which showed a new tab for Calls
next to the tabs for Chats and Contacts.
The move to launch voice calling comes shortly after
WhatsApp’s expansion to the web last month, which
enabled desktop users to access the service through a web
browser. To log in on the desktop, users have to take a
picture of a QR code through WhatsApp on their phone
because of the service’s reliance on phone number and SMS
verifications instead of usernames and passwords. The log-
in option is available to users on Android, Windows Phone
and BlackBerry, but not yet on iOS.
WhatsApp, a company that was acquired by Facebook for
$22 billion, also recently announced it has grown to 700
million users, up from 600 million in August. In the
announcement, posted by Koum to his Facebook profile, he
also promised that the company was excited to “keep
building a great product in 2015.”
If you
would like to try the Android version on your Android
device, you need to be running Android 4.4 kitkat.
Blackberry OS 10 will equally be getting this feature but for
all Anroid users, before you’ll be able to make use of this
voice call features, you need to download the latest version
of Whatsapp (v2.11.508) below
==>Download the latest version here
You must be running Android 4.4 kitkat , though some
people with OS4.3 Jelly bean are rocking it; but the most
successful so far with this feature are those running
Lollipop OS .
==> And sideload it (you’ll need to enable Unknown Sources
in your Security setting first) and get yourself an invitation
to use the new feature from someone that already has it.
But…
There is another way for rooted users to force this function
into existence, though stressful, as you’ll need to be
connected to your PC and open a terminal every time you
want to WhatsApp call someone (until it is enabled
permanently for you).
Just press Shift and right click on some blank space in a
Windows Explorer window and select “Open Command
Window here’’ and enter the following command:
am start -n com.whatsapp / com.whatsapp.HomeActivity
Whatsapp Plus users, when this features has been fully
integrated, your next whatsappPlus update will
automatically carry this features.
So have you activated your own voice calling features?
What will become of Skype and Viber?
